Assos
as well as the charming village of Behramkale,
has become very popular among Turkish people because
of its preserved natural appearance and exotic atmosphere.
Assos is an ancient harbour-city where Aristotle
spent three years at the head of a philosophical
school which he left for Lesbos at the time of the
Persian conquests. Remains of Athena Temple
(which is the only surviving example of Doric architecture
in Anatolia)and walls around the acropolis can be
seen. Below, an Ottoman bridge from the 14th
century crosses the Tuzla stream.
The Assos
International Art Festival takes place every year
in September.
